My wife had a boob job and it killed her.

Max Klementiev always thought his wife Katia was perfect but, unknown to him, the 25 year old was planning a boob job.After secretly saving for the op, she told Max she needed a small “women’s procedure” then checked into a cosmetic-surgery clinic to have implants fitted. But, tragically, young mum Katia – who had 34B breasts – had heart failure during her op and died, leaving her confused family devastated
Max, 27, who has visited his wife’s grave every day since her death in May and now cares for their son, Stas, five, says: “I can’t understand it. Katia sometimes asked me what I thought about her body and I’d always say she was perfect. Now my beautiful wife’s in a coffin and our son is motherless. We’re devastated.” The couple got together as teenagers, marrying in 2005. A year later, part-time accounting assistant Katia had Stas. Max, a sales manager, says: “Although, she liked looking good, she wasn’t obsessed with her image. She was funny, clever and a great mum.”
But, unhappy with her appearance, Katia secretly saved her earnings for a boob job. Max says: “I had no idea – she had her own bank account, so I didn’t notice. I’d never hinted I liked big boobs or thought she needed them, and she never mentioned it. We were planning another baby. I thought she was happy.”
On 16 May, Katia told Max she had an appointment at a clinic near their home in Magnitigorsk, Russia, saying she’d booked in overnight for a minor “women’s procedure.” Max recalls: “She didn’t tell me what it was and I didn’t push her – looking back, I now assume she was hoping to surprise me with her new look.
“She was often private about women’s things. She seemed cheerful, so I wasn’t worried.”
But, the next morning, Max had a call from her surgeon. He recalls: “He said he was calling from the plastic-surgery clinic – I didn’t understand. Then he said: ‘I have terrible news ’ and explained Katia had been rushed to intensive care. Her heart had stopped during a breast-implant operation. All I could say was: ‘What breast-implant op?’ He told me to come to the hospital immediately – I dropped Stas at his granny’s on the way, with tears streaming down my face.”

When Max arrived, doctors said he couldn’t see Katia because they were still trying to resuscitate
her. He waited for an hour before a doctor revealed she’d died. Max says: “They said the anaesthetic had caused heart failure. I screamed: ‘No!’ then collapsed. I couldn’t comprehend why she’d been having the op. They had to give me a sedative and I was driven home later.”
He says the days before Katia’s funeral were a blur, saying: “I had to tell her parents and friends – no one had any idea she was having a boob job. Telling Stas was heartbreaking – I said Mummy died after an operation and wouldn’t be coming back. He was in floods of tears.”
While investigations into negligence are underway, the clinic hasn’t yet answered Max’s queries and he doesn’t know what size implants Katia had requested. Max adds: “When I saw her in the mortuary, she looked beautiful – why did she want to change? I kissed her and held her hand. Stas has only just started to play again and I’m still in shock – I don’t know if we’ll move on. Her death was so pointless.”
