AT 'WHAT AGE DO WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN ABOUT SEX EDUCATION? "

At times I wonder as a parent, when is it the best time and age to start teaching your children about Sex education. When I was growing up, my mum never taught me anything about Sex education. She only portrayed it as a bad thing. She warned me about men, she made me and my younger sister see men as dangerous, that the only thing that interest them about the female specie is Sex. Sex was refereed back then as serious sin, in fact no other sin was recognized apart from sex.  Then as a teenage girl, I used to wonder, if sex was bad, why do people indulge in it frequently. I couldn't go straight to ask my mum,, because of fear of her tantrums. She will just beat the hell of me, for wanting to more about sex.  I decided to discover on my own, what sex was all about.

I read books, all sort of books about Sex, I concentrated on my biology courses in school just to be informed more about where baby comes from and how the process begins and develop. I read books voraciously, romance novels, sex magazines and others. In the process i found out, that Sex indeed is not a bad thing if it done the right way. Then ,the fear of HIV was not in existence like now, but the fear of getting pregnant and giving birth to a baby when you are not married or ready to have one was totally in existence back then.  As a teenager, armed with all I have read about sex education, I  became very conscious of  myself as a lady, I ensure that I don't keep boyfriends that will want to force me to have sex with them, I concentrated on my studies because, it occurred to me, that if i mistakenly got pregnant for a guy, my life will be put on hold, and it will be a shameful thing on my own side, and the guy life will go on as normal. So I made up my mind to stay off Sex and wait till I was ready. But, it was not an easy journey, guys won't let me be, they make promises that they cannot keep, buy you things, just to get to you and pretend to love you, if you mistakenly fall for them, then they will move on to the next available girl.... and you will be heart broken......

Back to the topic of the day... from my own personal experience as a child and a teenager, my parents didn't play their role very well in the area of teaching me about sex and its consequences, luckily, i got to learn through books. But you can agree with me, that not all kids or teenager, will have that time to read books, if they are not taught at home by their parents what sex education is all about, they will definitely go out in the world and give it a try and the end result most often is disastrous. It could result to HIV positive, unwanted pregnancy that will lead to abortion which might even kill that girl or damage her womb forever...Please parents to avoid all these I think is high time to sit our children down, no matter the age and educate them about sex.

I have a 3 years old son, who was sometime manipulated sexually by a 13 year old girl staying with me to help me out in the house chores. I was shocked beyond words, when my son told me what the house girl did to her. I had to sit him down even at his age to tell him what that girl did is bad, that whenever, anyone touch his private, playing it or whatever, he should at once report to me, and he shouldn't do that which the girl did to him to any other person, I told him, it is not a good habit. That was the best I could explain to him for his age, but as soon he is of age and can comprehend a lot of things around him am going to tell him all about sex, for him to be ready to face it when he meets it outside the home.
Over to you readers, do you think, my explanation to my child about the house help incident  is ok for his age? or should we not teach our children about sex education? what is the right age to teach them? any personal experience? please share with us so that as parents we, could all learn.......

"Through The Eyes Of A Child"

Have you ever looked into the eyes of a child? what do you see? for me, each time I look into a child eyes I see innocence and unalloyed trust, pure and simple. Children totally trust their parents, particularly their mothers, they believe every word that comes from their mother's mouth. .............

Children are very delicate  and very sensitive. When it comes to teaching them sex education. As parent we should be mindful of how we pass message across to our Children.

I remember the story of my friend Phil. Phil have a six year old daughter called Becky, who still shares the same room with them. Whenever they watch movies together and there is a lovemaking scene, Phil would tell her daughter that love making is evil, that those who indulge in it are bad and evil people. For that singular reason, Becky would often hide her face when she see such scene on TV, and it it was too much, she would either switch to  another channel or leave the room.
Then one faithful day, Phil husband wanted to travel and they decided to make love before traveling, so she dressed Becky for school and as she went downstairs for the driver to take her to school, Phil and her husband settled down to make love. They were already on it when they heard a small knock. They quickly dressed up and opened the door, lo and behold, Becky was sitting at the stair case, weeping her out. "What is it Becky?" Phil asked her daughter.  Her daughter said to her" I saw you, I saw  everything" Phil was too shocked to utter a word.  Becky had knocked and tried opening the door at the same time, and seeing that it was locked, she peeped through the hole by the door and saw Phil and her husband  in the act"

Phil was filled with shame, wondering what was going on,on her child mind.

Welcome back readers, from the story above, that child  must have concluded that her parents were evil people, since her mum had once told her that people making love are evil people, that must be why she was crying so hard. Children are innocent and trusting, but one can easily lose their trust of they begin to doubt your words. Now the question is? how do we manage our children, when it comes to Sex education, when is the right age to start teaching them sex education? do we have to wait until they are 18? or do we start as soon as they are 2 upwards? Readers what are your opinion??? also you can share child training techniques on this blogs so we parents we learn and train our children the proper way. The bible says" Train Up a child the way he should grow, and when he is old he won't depart from it"..... In conclusion,  wouldn't the world be a better place if we all saw things through the eyes of a child? Cheers.
